how's our defense now that dave is gone?

we sped up our offense so the defense was gonna give up more yards. still one of the top 30 or so defenses. to say the defense was bad is ridiculous.

not sure what the recruiting bit is all about. so what if dave isn't a glorified car salesman. talent seemed fine while he was coaching it.

I would say this is also a notch in Lane's belt.

Oh I love Lane and agree fully.

Saban OC-rehab did wonders for him. He also presents no worries with recruiting like Aranda would.

Lane's way ahead of Aranda or Napier to me

We should have hired Lane in 2016. He was the whole reason O got the job...he just never, you know, came here.

I just don’t think Aranda has enough skins on the wall for Woodward

If we know anything about his process, he’s going to go for the least riskiest guy that has some hardware on mantle

You mention Staley, who I love. Woodward isn’t hiring a guy like that, sadly. It won’t be anyone outside the box.

Prob a Sexton guy, which isn’t bad. Furthest he may go out the box is Freeze, who is represented by Sexton

yeah I get the knowing the recruiting region many years ago when you had to work the HS campus circuit that way....its not really how its done now. Most of the evals they're coming to you at camps, etc.

Now sometimes you do have a guy that's a bit of a fish out of water personality wise for the southern region. But for the most part, if you can recruit, you can recruit.

Lane needs to finish strong for the fan base to accept it I think

I think it’s important to have an offensive coach to sort through these QBs on campus next year. And I’d be confident in Lane doing that

he finishes the season with 1-2 losses, people will clamor for him again.

This all heated up right around the Bama loss so just bad timing.

the other fear with Lane is what if in 2 years he's done well enough that the NFL gives him another shot.

Both Moscona and Culotta said that Woodward is going for a home run hire

Name me a “home run hire” and make sure to include why that home run hire will leave their current job, that they are obviously doing very well at, to come to LSU and compete in the SECW where very good teams finish third in your own division and that makes fans want to fire their coach.

We need a really good DC

I mean we’re fricking broken on that side of the ball. An offensive coach has some tools to work with but outside of Ricks, Maason and Flott our whole defense fundamentally is going to be 2 straight years of shite. There isn’t a single good LB on this roster(of course we still haven’t seen some of these youngsters)

You have some other nice pieces (Roy, Guillory, Sage if we ever see him) but even now with all these guys it’s a damn train wreck.

I mean that's fine, just means he was successful here and stabilized the program. I'm not avoiding a guy because I think he'll be too successful and leave. It's why Skip's search led him to Les, he wanted a lifer and not a Saban climbing the wrung.

transfer portal should help expedite building up some of those short comings...but it is funny that Ed's classes have many of the same flaws he accused Les's of having

That is what I was really thinking about in terms of an up and comer with new/interesting schemes. Not necisarily a HC, but a forward thinker on defense. I really like the 3-man gap and a half" scheme Staley is running and I think it would translate well to college. It's really good against the run and keeps everything in front. LBs aren't as important and you need great DL and CBs, which we produce.

If Aranda doesn’t bring Herman he could always take Grimes

As much as i hated his OL he has become quite a good OC

Aranda back to LSU, that would be so incredibly legit!
