What assistance is needed? What does this mean? That you need police, ambulance etc?

Yes. They need to know what services to dispatch to the scene. Ie: police, fire, or EMS.

In the example of you shooting someone, you would need police to come secure the scene (because even though you didn't commit a crime per se, it is still a crime scene) and collect evidence. You would also need EMS to try and possibly perform care on the person who was shot.

The EMS thing gets in some people's head, but the bottom line (for me anyway) is I do not want to kill another person (despite what some would have you believe about people who carry firearms). That firearm is a tool to keep me and my family safe. I will, however, neutralize the threat to myself or my family. If EMS is able to care for and save that person's life, then so be it. But as I said, first priority is making sure the threat is neutralized

There are pros/cons for every insurance company and plan and you'll have to make some choices. Deductibles, coverage for the civil lawsuit after the criminal case, payout caps, coverage for missed work, coverage for cleaning the scene, coverage for others in your household, whether you can choose your own lawyer or whether they choose, etc...

Wrong. It's the same fight. They should finish their investigation before they walk on my rights.

to end a threat to yourself and/or your loved ones...i doubt even the bleediest of hearts would feel much more than than recoil immediately... and then maybe tinnitus for a lil bit afterwards.

imo, the biggest emotional change for most males.. after taking the life of a bad guy...
..is that immediate shot of confidence.

i agree #2 is the huge headache...
you'll have the bad guy's family coming after you in civil court too

3. Call 911.
The only information the 911 dispatcher needs to know is:
- What assistance is needed;
- Your name and the location of the emergency;
- What you look like/are wearing; and
- That you have been the victim of a crime.

Do not make any statements to the dispatcher about what happened (e.g., “I’ve just shot an intruder”).

You do not have to stay on the line with the 911 dispatcher (they’ll ask you

There are some attorneys that advise that you should not be the one to call 911 if there are bystanders present that can call. You are being recorded and even the tone of your voice, how loud you are talking, and how excited you sound could be used against you.

Yes, but don't be a dick about it. The bigger dick you are to them then the bigger dicks they will be to you. If you're ever in such a situation you have to realize that this is just the beginning of a very long process. You will never, ever win a war of words with the police in an interview/interrogation scenario. Simply say you need your attorney.

Appreciate this. I have my CCL but don’t carry as of now until I get more range time. I want to be 100% confident. This is good info to know for home protection and all.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion.
You seem like an intelligent guy; I’m sure you’d handle such a situation (God forbid) appropriately.

Just remember: There are anti-gun folks out there who are dying to trip you up (e.g., “You told our dispatcher he was wearing a baseball cap; now you say he wasn’t. Sounds like you’re having a tough time keeping your story straight, Mr. auggie. Why is that?”).

my non legal opinion is that your ccl instructor shouldnt be giving legal advice.

Why not?

Unless you have an attorney who specializes in self-defense use of a firearm, such as the OP it would seem, it's very likely that the instructor knows as much or more about specific laws and cases than your family attorney.

Nothing you say can or will be used to help you, only hurt you. Say absolutely nothing without an attorney present.

Not true.

You're going to have to give some details when you call 911. You should briefly explain what happened, clearly identify yourself as the victim, and ask for law enforcement and an ambulance. Then, tell them you've left the immediate area for your safety (you did do that, right?) and where police officers can find you. Then, hang up and wait for police to arrive.

That's when you tell them you're prepared to fully cooperate with them, but you want your attorney present before giving any statements.

Those are the questions that they should answer, before they tread on my rights. Then they can show up at my place to give me a medal, or put me in cuffs. We'll see what happens at that time.

You don’t have to have an attorney on retainer lol..
When you decide to CC, that is the time to start searching for Criminal Defense Attorney in case you ever need to use your weapon. There are plenty of good Criminal Defense Attorneys that would be more than happy to give you a stack of their business cards to hand out to your friends and family. But if you do need to call an attorney, their legal fees won’t be cheap.

Do many of y'all really have an attorney?

The only time I have ever needed an attorney during my 40 years on this Earth was when I was going through my divorce. I do know a good criminal defense attorney though, should the need ever arise, but I'm not in the habit of committing crimes so I doubt I will ever need to call him for his services.

My cousin is one of the top prosecutors in my district. If I'm ever in trouble I'm calling him because he would know exactly what to do and not to do.

Which is the beauty of having concealed carry/2A insurance.
I pay a small monthly fee, and I believe my insurance covers up to $2 million in legal fees.
The peace of mind knowing I can pick up the phone at 2am and speak with an attorney who specializes in self-defense shootings is invaluable.

Zero chance that you carry responsibly and would also shoot a responding police officer.

Which means you either don't carry responsibly or you're talking out of your arse.
